Valerie "LIGHTS" Poxleitner

LIGHTS is one of the most talented young female rockers. Although, she has a wide base of followers and fans, she does not have the fan base that her talent should. Her music is filled with strong, relatable lyrics about love and inner struggles. LIGHTS has many interviews which can be easily found all over YouTube. She is personable, friendly, and laughs often. From these interviews, viewers can learn about the meaning behind her several tattoos, her love for video games such as World of Warcraft, and the influences on her unique music videos. Viewers can see her striking confidence, although she is not narcissistic. LIGHTS is not embarrassed to be herself, even if she is considered a "nerd" or a "geek" for playing hours upon hours of video games or for incorporating video game and space elements in her music videos.

Her hit song, "Siberia," shares the same name as her latest album. Her song "Siberia" is a love song with a catchy beat and strong lyrics about not caring where in the world she is, as long as she is with her lover. Another of LIGHTS most popular songs is "Second Go." "Second Go" is another love song, although the lyrics are much different than "Siberia." The music is still upbeat and catchy, but LIGHTS begs her lover for another shot at love. Her song, "Everybody Breaks A Glass" is a song about inner struggle, rather than love. It is LIGHTS way of telling her followers that everyone makes mistakes and it is okay. This song is special because it is featuring a male rapper.

My favorite lyric from this song is sung by this male, "Shook, scared to look at peers when they peer back, it's weird how we fear that, it's weird how we wear masks." This small part of "Everybody Breaks A Glass" really impacts me. It is true and relatable. Many people do not want others to, for the lack of better words, "see inside of them." Most people keep their emotions hidden because they fear the judgement of others.

LIGHTS' music videos are a huge hit. They're extremely unique and unusual, but they completely fit LIGHTS' unique and unusual personality. The music video to "Drive My Soul" really shows her love of space, as the entire music video is of her as a space girl. The music video to "February Air" also proves her love for space, as well as her love for comic books. These two music videos are quite similar. The music video to "Everybody Breaks A Glass" is completely comic book oriented and the lyrics are the quotes from different comic characters or the captions for each comic. The music video to "Second Go" is very different from her other videos, having nothing to do with space or comics. It has a white empty house, lacking any color at all, which LIGHTS paints. She does so sloppily, but nevertheless it is an inspiring video, filled with vibrant colors.

With her combination of inspiring and relatable lyrics, a mixture of catchy tunes and slow "ballads," and fun, unique music videos LIGHTS' music is extremely powerful. All of this enunciates her unusual personality and obvious confidence
